S just turned 1 and in celebration, she received some new clothes and toys of her own (a reprieve from her brother’s perpetual hand-me-downs).
My favorite gift has been the Fisher-Price Little People All Around Car…not because it’s self-described as “a cute mid-sized car perfect for running errands with mom” or that the Mom figurine is rocking a Talbot-inspired black pants-white shirt-pink jacket combo that sets off her sensible shoulder-length blowout.
*NOTE: Kitten sticker not available on other models…we like to detail our own around here 😉
No…it’s the “fun tune” that plays when you press down the driver’s seat, which I realized is an appropriation of Los Lonely Boys’ “How Far Is Heaven”.
What struck me as so funny was imagining the product pitch for this pink SUV — a team of people sitting around the room who, after much research and test-marketing, felt THIS song was the embodiment of Moms everywhere.
THIS song was Universal Motherhood’s wheelhouse – middle-aged ladies on the road, digging the airy, innocuous peppiness, straight-up bopping along on their way to Target.
Not exactly the epitome of cool, but I suppose it could be worse…so grab your iced coffee, roll down the windows and pump up those Adult Contemporary Hits – you’re a mom and you’ve earned it!
